Would you go where homosexuality is illegal?

Yes, I'll risk it just like those who live there

Yes, I just won't expect a holiday romance!

Not likely, those places aren't at the top of my list

No, it's just not worth the risk

'The Vigil'

I’m here again
And again wondering why
It’s happened again
Another time to cry
Is there a point to all of this?
A reason for it all?
Has God decreed that someone must suffer?
Be a target? Take the fall?
Well I hate this
I want it to end
I don’t want another vigil
Another memorial,
Another rally,
Another candle light
I don’t want to be here again
Again wondering why
It’s happened again
Another time to cry.
I want a celebration
A grand celebration
That love has won
That hatred is gone
That tragedies are done
There are no more targets
We’re living with respect
Hetero
Homo
Lesbian
Trans
And Bi
We’ve forgotten that other time
The time again to cry.
As we light our candles
Let us hold in our hearts
The wish, the dream, the desire
That we have no more times of wondering
No more reasons to cry

Author's Quote:

"There's a vigil tonight for a man in our community who was put in a coma and life support by two teenagers in our town of Middleburg, a rural central Pennsylvania farm community full of churches and deer hunters. He flirted with them while they were all drinking and they decided he should be killed. I'm tired of the hate crimes and tired of the hatred. I have to speak tonight and wrote this poem which tells how I feel about organizing yet another candlelight vigil."
