Mainpage » Words Index » 'Silence' by Dirk Jonker 'Silence' by Dirk Jonker'Silence' Nothing tears at my soul like silence, It is hunger in its incessant insistence, Time ticks away the hours of my existence, But without the ticking all is silence and Madness sits on my chest to strangle me. There is no hope if you don't speak. When I am alone I cannot bear the loneliness of thinking about you. Do you know? Have you guessed my love From the thousand hidden clues, The millions of wordless sentences that have passed between us. The way I touch you though I touch no other. The way I have made you my brother. When there is nothing to be said Because the words would get in the way of meaning ... When any words would make me sound like an ass, When I long to hold you and soothe your pain, But don't reach out ... Do you understand ? Or is it the silence that has struck you dumb. Is it the fear that keeps us from giving, That has taken your toungue. My words go in: "I love you" But no echo is heard Just silence.
