(terribly sorry if somebody has already posted a topic like this)

i am a christian and i fully have the lord in my heart.

but recently my ex boyfriend (attends the same church and i do and is in my bible study group) has taken up the habit of constantly IMing me, spewing off random bible verses that apparently say that i'm going to hell because i'm gay.

i tell him that i don't care what he says, that i love god and i know god loves me, and that he needs to leave me alone.

but he says he's "not gonna give up on me".

and he's not even saying all this in a kind way. he's cruel and ignorant.

he isnt doing this because he actually cares about me, he's doing this so that he can check it off of his "good little christian boy" list, and once he's de-gayified me, he can pat himself on the back and feel all good about himself.

i know that this boy is an arrogant asshole (he really screwed me up when we were together... whole other story, though) and i tell myself not to listen to him.

but lately its really REALLY been bothering me.

i kept thinking "AM i going to hell?"

and now i've conviced myself that i am somehow, and i'm thinking "WHY, god?? i thought you loved me. why would you create me like this just to send me to hell?"

and its bothering me and i just wanted to see what you guys thought.

Do you like lobster, crab, or shrimp?

Then you're probably going to go to hell anyways.

I personally do not believe in God, but I fully respect that you do. If you think He loves you, well, he wouldn't be giving you false ideas, would He?

I think He would rather you were you than who you wanted to be for Him.

I don't know. That's my two cents.
"You musn't be afraid of the dark," he said, gently grasping my arm and making me shudder. "Night is purer than day; it is better for thinking and loving and dreaming. At night everything is more intense, more true. The echo of words that have been spoken during the day takes on a new and deeper meaning. The tragedy of man is that he doesn't know how to distinguish between day and night. He says things at night that should only be said by day." - Elie Wiesel, Dawn

What Bible verses does he send you? I will refute each one. Or you can do it yourself... Google is your friend.

Well, we'd have to throw a god into the equation, and then it's always a mess, now, isn't it?

Eh, I don't quesiton gods or anything.

I'm sure only damn bastards (ie, serial killers, torturers, rapists, Stalin...) go to hell, if there is one.

Hell is for people with bad intentions.

A damn gay 'don't got no bad intentions.' He's nothing special, just a kid or an adult. He's as special as a dishwasher at a diner.

See, I always believed hell was for the person with bad intentions. Could be anyone. Them, those guys who want torture the man to give 'em pain. The cruel and diabolical and all of that. You know, stuff you see everyday...

You don't go to hell for being gay. You don't go to hell for being white or SouthAfrican either.

It's in your head - it's what's in your head. You do what's wrong despite being aware of it so, you've got a bad head. You've got bad intentions.

But what the hexx does satan find so charming about somone who's attracted to someone else?

thats a common one. Tell him he's a f-ing retard and that the whole point is you don't wont to lay with men.

as far as i know it, lesbianism isn't even addressed in the bible, hence why there are no old english law prohibiting it. Because it didn't exist.

My advice as always is leave religion. Leave your church. Keep you faith in whatever god(s) you please, but don't allow a human being to dictate to you what is moral and important. These 'priests', 'vicars' and 'imams' beleive they profess the word of God? How prideful is that?
Religion is a lie. A contrivance of man to exploit man. Faith is important, in what ever it might be, family, a person, an ideal and deity. That's all you need.
In the buffet of life, there's no second helping.

You're not honest.
You never could be.

This is one main part I do not follow a religion, I believe in a Higher power, something had to start everything off (Like how did the big bang start)
That way I have my own beliefs.
No one can touch them or interfere with them,
They are mine.
Pride is all we have left? Is this what we've been reduced too!.

The issue with going to hell...I'm not religious at all but I am also not ignorant about the situation. I respect the fact that you support your religion regardless of the demonization of gays by the church.

Religion now a days is blown way out of proportion in society. To elaborate I mean every where you go there is some type of religious blasphemy thrown in your face about going to hell.

Society fears the gay community and they justify this by saying it goes against God. Christianity dominates the world as a religious choice (not going into the denominations...whole other topic). They say it is immoral and goes against God. However, people do things that would be just as morally wrong in God's eyes.

For example people at my school they say I am wrong for being gay. Which tells me that they are right for stealing, disrespecting their elders and otherwise doin what they do. I on the the other hand do not steal and I respect everyone until they disrespect me.

So you are not wrong for being gay because if you live an otherwise moral life, God will put you in the proper place as he is the final judge. The bible can be interpretted in many ways. How one person interprets on thing another does it in another. Some one "translated" the bible and published it. There are many versions of the bible at that, since God did not write the bible himself, you cannot tell what his will is, just go by how you feel.

And as I said God is the final judge.
P.S. This is coming from an atheist.

I grew up being told that being gay was an unforgivable sin ect. I went through a period of looking for a new faith and found that a relationship with god isn't based on the rules of a worldly church or book. It is what is in your heart. God (I am still questioning god's existance) knows what is in you heart. God would not create something only to condemn it to hell for being what he created it to be. It is presumptious in the extreme for someone to declare they know what god's judgement will be.

I wrote a blog about this: http://www.queerattitude.com/b...entry.php?id=42

If somebody wants to condemn you to hell, quote for them Matthew 23:13

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to."

It's basically saying if you shut off people from Heaven (i.e. saying homosexuals will never enter) then you are shut off from Heaven yourself. It's kind of a parallel verse to "judge not lest ye be judged".

If you want to interpret the Bible literally, then the answer is yes. Homosexuals are going to Hell. But then again, chances are your boyfriend is too because an astonishingly small percentage of people will ever get to Heaven if we interpret the Bible literally.
The mere impulse of appetite is slavery, while obedience to the law we prescribe to ourselves is liberty. - Jean-Jacques Rousseau

listen hon, i have a ton of religions and none of my gods say im going to hell. i dont think that any just god will send someone to hell because of who they love. in fact, a just god would encourage love of any kind. i dont know much about your god, but im gonna trust ur judgement here. u love your god and believe in Him/Her... there must me a reason for that.. He/She must be just. if this is the case, no just god will send u to hell. be who u r, and dont let anyting get in the way of it.

and btw, just block the guy! tell him to shove it!
...and it didn't take them long to decide-

The only thing that seperates gays from non-gays is the fact that we fall in love with those of the same sex. And since when was love a sin?

There are quite a few passages in the old testament, especially under Leviticus that say "this is evil, that is evil." But for the most part, even the most pious christians ignor emost of them because they're considered "outdated." Why should your homosexuality be any different from say, shellfish unless your ex is just using that passage to justify his own agenda?
Memories are nice, but that's all they are.

The Bible also says it’s okay to sell your daughters into slavery and eat locusts and that you’re not allowed to associate with a menstruating woman. Actually, the last one's pretty good advice. =p

You're not going to Hell, unless you're like a serial killer.

If god had us created, then why would he let us live just so he could frown upon us?

I personally do not believe in hell, because Jewish law doesn't mention one. They do mention heaven though.
Here’s what I know about the realm of possibility—it is always expanding, it is never what you think it is. Everything around us was once deemed impossible. From the airplane overhead to the phones in our pockets to the choir girl putting her arm around the metalhead. As hard as it is for us to see sometimes, we all exist within the realm of possibility. Most of the limits are of our own world’s devising. And yet, every day we each do so many things that were once impossible to us.

I'm sure God won't sent you to Hell for falling in love with the same sex as yourself. No offence in your beliefs or anything, but there are much bigger things God could send you to Hell for, such as murder etc. Like you said, you believe God loves you. And I'm sure that if He does, He will love you for the person you are.. not which gender you fall in love with...
