I don't know if this belongs here but hey, photographs are a type of media, right?

So I really hate getting my photo taken so anyone have tips or horror stories to share on the subject? Because if you take a picture of me I look like a demented deer stuck in someones head lights 9 out of ten times. Okay thanks!

I can't really take a good picture either, usually I just make a silly face so when I come out looking stupid it's okay.. xD

Pretty much what Dylan said. XD

Occasionally I'll take a docile pic, and like it. My profile pic was a rarity. I was a photographer for a bit, got a couple of jobs, and I have no problem finding beauty in other people.

When you look weird intentionally, it cancels out the potentially ugliness one might find biologically! XD

Ugh god, I look like a dork in all mine, I just have to keep taking xD

Just think of someone, or something that makes you smile, like that boy in the back of the classroom, or that girl that gave you a kiss under the willow tree.

Only problem with that is, if it's still a bad picture, you think thats what you look like when you naturally smile xD

Oh, and for me, opening your eyes wide helps :L

Practice different angles and poses in the mirror. Sounds weird but works! Pick out a few of the good ones and rock them and save the ones you. dont like for the next person.

You look fine Emoticon: Tongue :p But if you wanna go for something artistic, try different angles and different lighting. Also if you get an account with google plus, there is a load of effects for pictures. I love you can make the pictures on google plus, look awesomely retro.

I would suggest Picnic, it was a photo editing orgy, but the ants came and ate everything so it moved to google+ :'(

Different angles, and different lighting. I find that very few people look good with a straight on profile picture. Also, I find that editing can go a long way to hide any imperfections. For example, in my profile picture I adjusted the exposure and balance of the picture because (although you can't see it very well) I had a rather large zit at the time. Also, changing the photo to a monochrome or black and white image also makes it ten times more sophisticated (in my opinion anyway haha)

Try to find a place with soft lighting or pure daylight as I've noticed it makes the photo come out perfectly crisp of perfectly romantic. Fluorescent lighting is rather harsh for most cameras that I've used.

And DO NOT forget to let your camera focus, otherwise you will not take a good photo AT ALL.

I'm by no means a professional or even an advanced amatuer, but this is what I've notice has worked for the photos I do take.

P.S: Angling your face a bit usually looks good (:

Well it's not your job, the subject, to look "good" in a photo, it's the photographer's job.

When someone's taking your photo they have to make you feel comfortable. Now I know that won't work in all situations because not everyone is a photographer so maybe you should think of something funny or something else.

First off: it's the inside beauty that matters :3 so DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK!

Anyways ^-^
-Just make sure the light is white and not TOO shiny.
-If you can, wash your face before the picture (no one likes sweaty faces .-.)
-Practice your best smile in the mirror whenever you can (and have it for a long time so you remember the pain when you take the pic)
-If you're taking the pic yourself, try and take multiple pics in one pose (so that later, you can decide which one is better looking)
-Chin up and belly inside.
-Make sure your eyes don't look creepy in the shot.
-If you feel ugly, pose in a funny pose >:{D EVERYONE LIKES FUNNY POSES: THEY'RE FUNNY!!

kay, so that's all my advice XD
GAY MARRIAGE
or as I like to call it MARRIAGE
Cuz I ate lunch today, not GAY LUNCH
And I watched television, I didn't GAY WATCH IT.

So marriage? It's a human right, not an heterosexual priviledge.

Just raise your eyebrows a bit to make your eyes "smile" and then think of something funny and laugh about it. If you do that your pictures will look awesome Emoticon: Grin :D. I do that with my pictures sometimes but I'm also a dancer and in show choir so I'm good at looking really happy and stuff in photographs XD.

Photos of me only come out okay if I don't know that they're being taken. I just tend to look more natural.

I literally have to take about 30 pictures to find one of myself that I actually like. Like others have said, try different poses, lighting, photo effects, etc. until you find something that works for you. For me, I usually don't do straight-on photos, instead I'll turn my head a little bit and keep my head up and my eyebrows up, sometimes I'll shoot a little smile or a pose, and sometimes I'll do like my profile pic and just kinda keep a casual look. Then I'll go into GIMP (an alternative to Photoshop) and I smooth it out and put a black&white or vintage effect. It's all about experimenting and finding what you like.
You laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same.

I have a really crooked smile when I show my teeth, so all of mine look like I'm making some weird roaring face or doing a bad Elvis impression! But yeah, when I'm with other people, I usually goof around and make funny faces. If I'm doing a profile picture or a nice one for something, I tend to do what Ryan just said and take loads pulling different faces, using different lighting, standing in different spots etc and then I find a few I like. I think almost everyone hates taking pictures of themselves though haha.
