I’ve noticed a lot of bisexuals have preferences and generally they prefer their own gender but a lot of Pansexuals I meet tell me they don’t have any preferences (pretty much neutral) is there a reason why it’s more common for Bisexuals to have a preference oppose to Pansexuals?

Suppose it has more to do with the sexual drive than anything else. Generally people prefer the gender they’re more sexually charged to. In general bisexuals seem to be more sexually driven than pansexuals; this is just an observation of course. I tend to come across self proclaimed pansexuals now and then who base more of their attraction for people on an emotional scale (there is sexual attraction prevalent of course but it’s marginal) however I’ve come across more bisexuals that place sexual attraction at a greater importance.

Well, I think that it may be because of the fact that a lot of people who consider themselves bi and prefer one gender strongly have a very liberal aproach to labels. While a lot of people in their situations would simply say that they were gay/straight, a lot of people don't want to trap themselves.
And a lot of people who are pansexual simply don;t see gender as an issue. It's pretty much "I like who I like. Reguardless of what's in their pants"
However, this is just my opinion. I don't feel that this applies to everyone. Heck, it might not apply to anyone but myself

From my own observation:
Before I had a proper understanding of Pansexuals vs. Bisexuals I always differentiated by Preference Vs. No Preference as one of the ways to tell them apart:
Bisexuals – Have Preferences
Pansexuals – Remain Neutral/No Preferences
And generally this is how it works for mos people that say they're either Pan or Bi.

Well as someone said, some bi people just don't like labels such as gay and straight, some people who are bi, go through traumatic experiences with one gender and lean more towards the other.

I believe that depends on the person, not the label. If we say that all bisexuals prefer their same sex, we are limiting the people who identify as bisexual. For all we know, someone who calls themselves pansexual might prefer the same gender. It is futile to try and pinpoint specific tendencies like that to a label. There is too much grey area.

I'm pan, and to be honest I don't think I have a true preference. I've found qualities I like and dislike in each gender. I don't know if that helps or not, and I can't speak on behalf of bisexuals, but on the whole I don't really have a preference. Sex for me is more of a representation that you love the person you're with, whoever that may be.
