I'm a high school senior and i'm planning on doing a study abroad program in college to the UK. If I find that I like it, i'm seriously considering getting a duel citizenship and possibly moving to the UK. This won't happen for another 4 years at least but I want to get advice on if I should do this or not. I find the UK to be more me. I like the culture, the food and the lifestyle better than here in the US. I'm planning on going into psychology and working at a crisis center or with youth in general. Any advice? Is it a good idea, could I get a good job and a place to live? How well are Americans able to do in the UK (England specifically) and how accepting is the UK of the LGBT community? Is it worth my time and interest to want to move there? Any and all advice is welcome!

I want to move to the UK after I graduate...I have friends there and even if I didn't, they are so supportive of LGBT's there. Way better than stupid old Idaho.
The caged bird stands on a grave of dreams
His shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
His wings are clipped and his feet are tied
So he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
Of things unknown, but longed for still
And his tune is heard on a distant hill
For the caged bird
Sings of freedom.

I know the UK is a lot more tolerant and supportive of LGBT's. And I love the atmosphere there. Also, it's much smaller. I've heard that in some places you can walk to the supermarket and some shops, and it's healthier. I guess that's why i want to move there. But i don't know how easy it would be to get a job there and how well American's are received. That's my main worry.

Technically we have a conservative government, but England is a very liberal country generally. We're very accepting of LGBT people

No, I don't know what that means.

I'd be terrified to move there. It has a lower life quality rating than the rest of Europe. In addition to on average, British people get less holiday time than the rest of Europe.
On the bright side, the people seem decent and the scenery and history seems quite rich. The British pound is also worth much more than the American dollar. Plus about half of the British youth today is expected to be able to purchase a house by the age of 25. (Unless they're like me and going to school to become a doctor, in which my bank account will be in the negatives leaving me no opportinity to buy a house.)
Good luck with the prospective emigration.
Edit: I do not hate British people, I am simply a sceptic of everything. I like to play Devil's Advocate.

It depends where you live as to how supportive we are, hah. But in all seriousness, I think the general population is pretty accepting. England is a lovely place to live, really. I'm at college (sixth form) and it's awesome here, so yeah. I know an American who moved here, I don't know how long back, but she's doing well here.
I personally love England. ^^

There are no fees at at uni if you're doing medical related courses (they're paid by the NHS), so being able to afford a house at 25 if you're doing medicine is very realistic if you live in the UK.
The UK is lovely and the LGBT community is accepted very well. There are gay villages or quarters in most if the big cities!

The UK is a lovely place to live. Its true that you can walk to the shop/supermarket, in fact I find it strange that you can't.
Job's are.... meh.. at the moment. Unemployment is 8.2% and this is higher in youths. Although it was reported the other day it is going down.
On the plus side you can drink at 18, why the limit in the US is 21 I will never understand. And.... Free Healthcare, at least I think student visa's have access to it.
The country as a whole is quite accepting of LGBT's.

we're pretty liberal overall and rather accepting, and you can walk to the shops. I'm surprised you lot can't ... but jobs are crap.
economically, we're so tied to the eurozone the economy and the jobs market suck over here. and uni fees are astronomical (or are in my view.)
and we're also renowned for being one of the most miserable counties around, and we're good at complaining. we also don't get much sun. and much more rain.
it will be alright in the end, and if it's not alright, it's not the end yet.

I live in England :3
It's nice over here and although America have gay marriage in some places England doesn't have anywhere near as many extereme bible bashers;)
It's really cold and rainy though so yeah that can get miserable. In getting a job it depends on what job you want but as with everywhere else at the moment I think... there aren't a lot to go around :')

Kyla, I love the rain. The weeks where it's going to be cloudy and rainy are my favorites. That's also one of the reasons I want to move there. =)

If you like the rain then go to the North West, it has the highest amount of rainfall in the country. The food's really good over here too, and the transport system's good. England is a great place, so id you like it you really should move here.
