I've been wondering what the minimum age to start taking hormones for transsexuals/transgendered people is.
I'm not transgendered myself, or at least I don't think I am, but I was maybe looking into it.. Cuz I'm not so sure of my gender and I MIGHT be transgendered, probably not, but just in case..
So, does anyone know the minimum age?
It might be different for different parts of the world, but I, myself am in the USA. So, anyone know?

While I can't speak from a law viewpoint, not having done much research on it, and not being in the US, medically speaking, it would be unsafe to start taking hormones of the opposite sex until puberty, when hormone's of one's biological sex would be introduced into their sytem, so they would not be forced into early puberty. In fact, starting hormones at the beginning of puberty would probably be preferable for transitioning's safe, in order to prevent secondary sexual characteristics of the biological sex don't have a chance to appear.

There is no minimum age per se. Every individual is different in terms of psychological and physical development. As far as I know, I think Addison summed this up pretty well. If you have been diagnosed as transgender and you have been seeing a therapist, they will put you on hormone blockers before you start puberty.

There used to be advised WPATH guidelines of not starting blockers till Tanner Stage 2 (basically when puberty starts) and not starting testosterone or estrogen until the person was 16. But endos didn't follow it word-for-word (and there are stricter ones too that don't want to deal with trans kids :/) and so to my knowledge they may start them now in tanner stage 1 (prepubertal), but just before puberty would normally start and then just start hormones then or slightly thereafter. It depends on the endocrinologist, but there are no restrictions now on when to start cross-sex hormones (though I think they still advise at least 3 months of seeing a psychiatrist first).

if I remember correctly... I don't think there IS a minimum age. you just need parental consent I think. I might be wrong, so you might want to look into it some more....

There isn't a minimum age, but as soon as you notice the first signs of puberty, then you can start taking hormones, but only with parental consent. If you are 18 or older you can take hormones anytime.
Of course, you have to see a therapist first, and they need to write a letter of recommendation.
