As you might be aware, DC Comics was planning to pick a random established superhero and making him gay. They picked Alan Scott.
Here's a quote showing why that backfired horrendously:
"1- Is the least known of the Green Lanterns (and does not wear what non-comic reading audiences would even recognize as a GL costume)
2- Has been on television for maybe ten minutes total in his entire history
3- Does not have and probably will not get his own comic
4- Has been completely retconned so that he no longer bears any resemblance to the old guard veteran that comic fans who did know of him would recognize
5- And got rid of his gay son in the process*."
Yep, as the Joker would say, "what a bonner".
* Obsidian, in case you don't know. He was a gay superhero character and a damn awesome one at that, and sadly with this whole Alan Scott incident, he no longer exists in the DC comics universe.

Do you have a source for your quote? It would benefit other members to get a chance to read the entire article. Thanks!

Actually, it was from another forum. That said, most geeks invested in DC's pointless reboots are mostly aware of all of this.

I've always been more of a Marvel comics fan, but I thinks it's a good thing that DC's at least trying to bring some integration between pop culture and the lgbt community. And I guess he's not the first they're making either.
Here's an article I found on it: http://news.yahoo.com/green-la...-070052544.html

My name inspiration comes from one of the cutest (*sigh* in my opinion) couples from Marvel's LGBT groups Karolina DeanxXavin from runaways. I'll admit, they're hardly known. It seems like comic book people are making a few of their characters that are lesser known gay. It's a start, but nonetheless annoying when a small timer like Bling is gay, but a big timer like mystique is only bi. Still love Marvel, at least they abandoned the comic code and openly admitted to having gay characters.
