So, as far as I know of, the biggest (maybe only) reason my mum won't let me start T or approve of future surgery is because she thinks that A) it's wrong to change your biological sex, and basically thinks of it as a girl changing to a boy, instead of a boy changing from a girl's body to a boy's; B) all of the surgeries and hormone therapies are regretted and unsafe, not to mention a form of self-mutilation.
Would anyone be able to help me find reliable sources that can clear things up? She doesn't believe youtubers who've transitioned even... The biggest point I'd like to get across is that it's not self-mutilation, because that seems to be her biggest issue with it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I'm tired, so I'm not going to go digging up resources right now, but the DSM is your best friend. It's basically the psychiatric community's Bible. It shows how the "treatment" for what is now called gender identity disorder is hormone therapy, surgery, transitioning, etc. that makes the person feel comfortable with their body. Even it is being updated this coming year (it's only updated every 5-10 years or so, I think) to reflect that it's not a mental illness and that the dysphoria, generally, goes away after finishing transitioning: http://www.dsm5.org/ProposedRe...on.aspx?rid=482
