I know I probably shouldn't even be worried about this but with the whole Obama interview and him saying how he supports gay marriage, there's been constant talk about "gays". I was hoping to hear some good things (I mean, no one's more anti-judgemental and pro-gay.than me. I just want peace), but I heard nothing good. They just said it's disgusting, horrible, mentioned several violent things, and even said they wouldn't vote for him. And when a clip of a lesbian couple.getting married came up, turned off the.Tv, and said it was so deeply disturbing they'd wanted.to commit suicide. I know it's just mean words, but it ruined my whole day. I have no right to feel bad, since some kids actually get kicked out of homes and abused, but I don't know....I just feel like crying.

You have every right to feel bad! That's absolutely horrible that you've been surrounded by such negativity. It makes me feel bad too. But know that there are still so many people out there who were thrilled by Obama's statement. (But maybe my view is skewed because I live in Connecticut, one of the few places where gay marriage is legal. Happy little blue state, here.) Still, every year more and more Americans become convinced that marriage is a right belonging to everybody. We'll win them over eventually. Until that day, be a strong voice in a sea of people who need some convincing!
La clarté étrange de ton sourire illumine mon été.

I wish I were a glow worm, a glow worm's never glum. 'Cause how can you be grumpy when the sun shines out your bum?

Watching intolerance can be just as hard as having intolerance directed at you. Someday, things will be better, this is a cycle america has gone through twice if not more already, with women and African American rights. And, considering we aren't segregated and stuff, that's already a few steps forward, so likely it won't be too long ^^ the newer generations being born are typically MUCH more tolerant of everyone, as well, and as these generations come into power, I see the world becoming a MUCH more equality-oriented and tolerant place to live in than it is these days. Keep looking forward!

I feel your pain...everytime the words "gay rights" come from the TV my dad laughs and says horrible things about how "they dont deserve anything b/c they're sick and need help and we shouldnt pretend like there's nothing wrong with them" etc and I feel like a little piece of me dies inside. But I cant say anything b/c I live in his home and will be kicked out for sure.
But...like everyone else said, we'll win equality eventually. Especially if people like you and I can find ways to be voices for the LGBTQ community when confronted with opposition.
Stay strong, my friend ;)
