A North Carolina pastor instructed parents to "punch" their children if they start displaying stereotypically gay behavior. He later retracted the statement saying ""If I had to say it again, I would say it differently, no doubt," Harris told the paper. "Those weren't planned words, but what I do stand by is that the word of God makes it clear that effeminate behavior is ungodly. I'm not going to compromise on that."

Just thought I'd bring up some relevant homophobia in the news, because there are plenty of people who would believe this and follow what he says.

Though I have to agree with the first comment about how religious leaders will often try and weasel their way out statements like that. If he meant it and said, then he should stick by it. Don't try and cover it up and say it was a joke. It wasn't a joke, Pastor Harris. You meant it and now you're embarrassed that people know your true beliefs.

I hope this just continues to demonstrate the increasing irrelevance and foolishness of this type of belief.

That was awful. It really makes me mad that the people were laughing too, I didn't think it was funny at all.

There is no biblical justification in saying it's wrong to be feminine and male and masculine and female. None. And if they want to use that verse where it says (paraphrased) "isn't it shameful for men to have long hair and women have short hair?" I would argue that they forgot to read the verse after that which says the church of god won't make any rules regarding hair lengths.

Not to mention, a supposed verse in leviticus says that men shouldn't dress in women's garb and women shouldn't dress in men's garb, but when you look at the translation for the verse in the original hebrew (which I did) it's actually just saying that women shouldn't dress for battle and men shouldn't dress as women to avoid being put in the battle lines.

The Young Turks talked about this, and i agree with what one of them said.
He said that he was probably "thrown into the closet" when he was young.
Because it looks like he was talking about something that happened to him when he was a kid

He does know that there is actually no proof that GOD said that effeminate behaviour is ungodly and even so his words contradict him. I mean the phrase 'ungodly' means something which a GOD wouldn't do, and if he is truly a smart and religious person he would know that all of humanity cannot be GODS. In fact this man makes his religion complete bs.
There is no hope without salvation, there is no life without destruction, in this desolate world we can only rely on the unknown for our minds shame the very ground.

When people say stupid shit like this, it's my wish they they continue to say similar, and ever more stupid shit. That way, people know they're a loonie. However, if they just say that "effeminate behaviour is ungodly," then people might actually mistake them for being sane.

I heard about this on the radio a few days ago. I couldn't even believe that there are people who actually believe that sort of thing. That, somehow, you're less of a man for being "effeminate" and less of a woman for being "masculine"; that there's something wrong with you if you don't match up to other people's ideals.
It makes me ashamed to be a native resident of North Carolina.

Once again, people who are afraid of what they don't understand think that beating it out is the best option :/

What bugs me is that people like him call themselves "Christians"; it makes us look horrible. I highly doubt he really acts on true Christian morals or ethics. This certainly isn't one.

I know people who had this done to them, it doesn't work. It just scars them. Basically, he should be telling people to murder their gay children, because that is the only way to get rid of them. In fact, isn't this kind of child abuse illegal in the U.S.? Why is he not, like, arrested?

He says "effeminate behaviour is ungodly"... does he mean for women as well?

Ugh, I'm done trying to understand these people and their dumb logic. Hopefully these ideas die out in the next few generations.
