Whuddup? One of my good buddies got me into anime recently... so far I've seen Highschool of the Dead (sick show), and I've just started Stein's Gate...
Anyone know of any other good anime series?

Death note!!! And read the manga too, they're brilliant.
If you like ridiculous reactions which were intended to be serious with a really heavy tactics element, look at Akagi - although if you don't like Riichi Mahjong then you might get pissed off pretty quick
There's another one, which I think is done by the same people as Akagi, called Kaiji. Kinda trashy, but there's an OK plot to it and it's mostly serious with no "KAWAII DESU NEEEEEE" stuff.

I cannot recommend Death Note enough It's an absolutely incredible series from start to finish; I spent about half my time watching it literally on the edge of my seat
I also recommend Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Fullmetal Alchemist, Hellsing, Elfen Lied (although it's extremely dark and depressing) and Neon Genesis Evangelion

Of course, Death Note as everybody is saying. I actually preferred the manga over the anime. Also, Neon Genesis Evangelion is super amazing as well. Futuristic Japan with fighting robots and aliens. Beat that.

In Gurren Lagann, they create matter out of manliness. They end up being so manly, they build the mechs up to be so large that they fight with ENTIRE GALAXIES
For sheer craziness, I reckon Gurren Lagann wins but I haven't seen Neon Genesis Evangelion, I'll watch it!

I'll definitely check out all of those mentioned.
Thanks for the replies!

Hunter x hunter is a classic. Also, try the new series, Beelzebub. Also... Bleach. I've run out of things to recommend now cuz they said it already. Oh yeah! Fairy Tail. Yeah, try that too.

These are my personal favourites: Death Note, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Full Metal Alchemist, Full Metal Panic!, and Darker than Black. They're all freaking awesome.
Monster, and Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna are on my "to-watch" list.
Hoped I helped. ^.^

OMG Logan, you totally reminded me that I forgot about Ghost in the Shell. That is soooo good, but I do prefer the TV series over the movie.
