Would you rather be called hot or beautiful (or anything else) by your boyfriend/girlfriend? I hear people in my school tell their bf/gf that they are hot, and I feel like that is almost disrespectful..? Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the connotation of the word "hot" is more emotionless than beautiful. I personally would much rather be called beautiful than hot by my bf. Thoughts? Opinions?

I would prefer beautiful, but what really would make my day, would be called fair, just like Shakespeare's fair youth. And I think that calling somebody hot, is not only emotionless, but it says: "I want to have sex with you and only this."
"E eu vos direi: "Amai para entendê-las!
Pois só quem ama pode ter ouvido
Capaz de ouvir e de entender estrelas."
Olavo Bilac - Via Láctea nº 13
My rough translation of this part of the sonnet:
"And I say to you: love to understand them
As only who loves can have ears
Capable of hearing and understanding the stars"
'What a silly thing Love is,' said the Student as he walked away. 'It is not half as useful as Logic, for it does not prove anything, and it is always telling one of things that are not going to happen, and making one believe things that are not true. In fact, it is quite unpractical, and, as in this age to be practical is everything, I shall go back to Philosophy and study Metaphysics.'
Oscar Wilde - The Nightingale and the Rose

I'd rather be called beautiful. =) Though my girl does call me hot/sexy, she usually calls me more respectful, loving names, so it's okay. <3

I like being called hot. I don't know why. I just do. It seems natural?

I think it's definitely ok to use it when you are being sexual with your significant other, but to call them hot as a compliment seems... shallow?

it is kind of shallow... I'd rather be called beautiful... *sigh* so far I've only been called that in the "friend" or "family" or "I'm your mother, I have to" way...

I rather be beautiful, hot is just dealing with the looks of the person. Beautiful for me deals with emotions.

Hot is refering to your body
beautiful refers to the times when your personality shines from within.

There is a difference but its hard to explain. The "Mona Lisa" is beautiful but not hot. Being called hot has more to do with sex appeal. I don't mind either one but I prefer beautiful.

I suppose I'm being rather hypocritical over this, seeing as I've never had a boyfriend. Maybe I'd enjoy it too.

I like cute. Like beautiful it can refer to your actions and personality and not just looks but cute has that innocent connotation to it.
If i had to choose between hot and beautiful though i would say beautiful.

I prefer "beautiful". The word is a lot harder to lay out than "hot", and it takes a lot more emotion, I think. Plus "hot" and "sexy" have turned into such common and almost derogatory words these days that I just don't see "hot" as as good of a term as "beautiful" is. However, I've only been called either a few times, and only once each in an other than friend/family way.

Yeah, I prefer beautiful. My girlfriend calls me hot & sexy a lot, & that makes me feel all "and ...", but she does say beautiful & gorgeous a lot too. Honestly I'd rather be called things that suggest they like who I am & not how pretty I am. Like sweet or adorable or loving, all of those my girlfriend has called me a lot too.
I love you! Yeah, you! Thanks for being you!

My girlfriend and I use both hot and beautiful.. I think I might use hot a little more than her but I do use beautiful and other things like lovely and adorable allot too. I think it's fine to have a fair amount of both. Whatever is comfortable for the people in the relationship.

Hot is so general I think. If I was into a girl I wouldn't say "oh she's so hot" unless I just happened to see a pretty girl walking. If I'm into her I would say she's beautiful or absolutely gorgeous to me.
There's a big difference. Hot is just for anyone. Beautiful is when you mean it.
Possibly nuts :P

I prefer beautiful it seems more genuine hot seems like get in meh pants now sort of thing I'd prefer to be with someone who's beautiful instead of just hot, hot would just be someone with sex appeal not someone who I'm attracted to emotionally
