For the sake of not getting things confusing, I'm going to use femme words, "she", "her", etc.

I wanted to know how you would go about finding out which gender someone is, when they are transitioning. This new girl at work, her name is Jenn is transgender. She is very nice, and I would like to get to know her more, and befriend her, I just don't know which pronouns I need to use, so I don't offend her. I believe she is MtF, because she has a more masculine figure, and some facial hair. But, then again, she could be FtM. I say this, because we wear name badges, and hers of course, says "Jenny", but I was thinking that maybe they had to put her birth name on her badge.

I don't know, I just don't want to insult her by just asking her, or using the wrong pronouns.

Some help? :/

I think you could just say something like "what pronouns do you prefer?"
I don't know about where you're from, but I know in our queer community, that's a perfectly normal thing to ask, and it is usually asked/discussed during introductions. I think it's better to just ask rather than try to guess and be wrong.

Yeah I think that she would probably like it if you asked actually. There are so many rude people out there that she's probably had to deal with, so I don't think that it matters too much how you ask as long as you're polite. Good luck and tell us how it goes Emoticon: Smile :)

Agreed with the others, and when asking just make sure she knows you're doing it out of respect and she'll probably see it for what it really is, you just trying not to say the wrong thing.
You're stubborn, hard headed, sheltered, impatient, angry, and altogether you irritate and frustrate me more than anyone else on the planet. I love you.

Yeah, I think she might be happier if you ask. shed probably be more offended if you used the wrong pronoun than if you came out and asked.
Yeah they talk about her She smiles like shes so tough She says "hey can you talk a little louder, I don't think my heart is broken enough"
