Sometimes I go to the beach, where weeds blow & jellyfish are painkillers
I dig holes in the sand, and in their depths

I find myself on these northern beaches
With cold, Atlantic eyes.

You weren't there.

Not with "Tightrope Ride" in my headphones
And clay, like love, glued around my feet.

Once, on the beach, we lit a fire of leaping tissue-paper flames.
Flames, like prayers, to heaven.

"This fire represents
The light of god"

But god is everywhere,
And the sea wouldn't burn.

We're all wiser now, save the enigmatic, all-encircling ocean.
She remains shrouded in oracular noise.

Her depths are full of shipwrecked, secret loves.
Our names are written in her ledger of the lost

Separated by the unwritable character of time.

Had things been different,
Though that is invalid to say

I'd have sat with you and stroked your hair
And with you, watched the sun rise.

We'd have opened fires in winter
After hair-caught sea-breeze summer

I'd have sung a fragile song for you
Of mother-of-pearl and amethyst

Of woodsmoke, incense, firelight
A stone and water, music in the night.

We'd have tasted the sea.

The limestone crumbles in my hand.

I would not have abandoned you.

And still the flywheel sea propels the wave-timed orrery
Behind our eyes, with distant thunder

But in the end
All we are
Is all we were.

its amazing
I’ve tried so hard to tell myself that you’re gone
But though you’re still with me
I’ve been alone all along

Holy crap!!! That was absolutely brilliant, I loved it! Hey, would you mind if I use this as an example? I serve as an instructor/tutor/etc. to some of my friends who are interested in Spoken Word poetry, since I've been doing it a while and I have a lot of prompts and things like that. Most of the stuf I've shown them is beat poetry, or goes into Def Slam poetry competitions. This would be a great example of the varying types of poetry people write. You'll get all credit of course, it'll be attributed to you. Just wanna know if you mind Emoticon: Smile :)

Aaron: That's totally cool by me. I've always been interested in slam poetry but my petite white-girl appearance makes it hard to perform the feelings my words draw. Anyway, I'm honored.

Thanks for the support guys :]

@Ally-O: Thanks, hun!! And hey, don't worry about your appearance. One of the main concepts of slam poetry is that the person doesn't matter; it's just their words and how those words are performed. I'm a 16-year-old emo-dressing gay guy from Connecticut, but I still lead a 17 member Spoken Word poetry group, Raw Veritas. Actually, do you have any more pieces? I'd really like to read them if you do. And if you want, we can talk about some slam poetry aspects; I can tell you about some ways to get out there. Feel free to PM me and/or send a friend request when you get the chance, if you don't think I'm being too forward Emoticon: Smile :)
