Topic: How does QA support itself? Just curious...

Sorry for the random question!
How does QA support itself? It has no adverts or banners or paypal donations page....
I assume you have to pay for servers, webspace, bandwidth, etc.
Do the mods and webmasters have full time jobs? Or is this their j..no, it can't be - coz there's no one to pay you all.
I hope this isn't personal, but I assume the webmasters and mods are part of the LGBTQ community? Right?
Thanks

You're right, QA has very few advertisements (none visible to members, see last link), so it is funded mostly out of pocket. You can, however, donate, and it would be appreciated!

The staff are volunteers, and we are not paid. Staff were regular members previously, so we are all members of the LGBTQ community.

At last check, QA operated at a loss for the developers. I think they own the server, though. Bandwidth is still expensive, as are various software purchases.
Nobody gets rich off QA, that's the truth.

Hello folks. Since December 2007 Graham and I have been paying £30 per month each for the upkeep of the dedicated server on which QA runs, which includes unlimited bandwidth.
Prior to that all hosting costs were covered by Graham when the site was on a shared server. I will be withdrawing financial support later in 2010.
The code for the contextual advertising was introduced but for some reason Google never served the ads, so no money's ever come from that and contextual advertising was turned off.
The mother of one of our members donated £300 to us in December, which I think Graham was putting to use on advertising.

Hosting costs for QA will continue to be covered well into the future. It's important to note that QA is not the sole use of the web server so making QA pay its way has not been a clear priority thus far.
The Supporter concept still has value and I'll revisit that in the future when it becomes more viable.
In the mean time, the donations account will continue to be used as the ancillaries and contingency fund. If you would like to and are able to support QA in this way, that would indeed be appreciated. Your contribution will help secure the steady growth of the community.
You're the only one I ever believed in, the answer that could never be found.
