Topic: QA Policy: Search the Forums

I tried searching for a thread about this topic, but only found a thread from about 4 years ago about making a search forums tool. I apologize in advance if there is a topic already.
I am noticing that there is an increasing neglect of the "Search the Forums" tool. I would like to, kindly, remind members to please use the tool before making a thread.
There are several topics relating to certain subjects and I feel that with Lewis retired from QA, that members should work on helping keeping QA a tidy place, out of respect for the mods and Grum.
Lewis has always been here to merge topics and remind people, now, we as QA members need to take more responsibility for our actions.
Being on QA is a privilege and like with any other privilege, abusing it will make the experience less rich for us as a community.
I am fully aware, as I've experienced many times myself, that sometimes you try to search for a topic and you have no clue what it would be under. The effort is what I'm more concerned about.
I'm, also, aware that newer members are still getting used to the site, which is why I wanted to make a reminder that under "Forums" is the "Search the Forums" tool.
I'm done rambling now.  Let's strive to keep QA tidy and functional!

agreed!!
i am noticing the same thing as well.. and if you find a topic that has is similar to the one you want to write about...you could always BUMP it and make that topic alive again 
i use the "search the forums" feature a lotttt lol

This post was definitely needed. It's quite annoying when several posts of the same topic are made, then they're all in the HotTalk bar.
Anyone who can handle a needle convincingly can make us see a thread which is not there.

Even if they are out of date you should bump them. Then on your bumping post, add any changes that you want to in that, so people can still continue that topic anyway.
Anyone who can handle a needle convincingly can make us see a thread which is not there.

This is a great reminder for all of the older members of QA but also I great way to let all of the new guys joining know as well.
We should all respect our surroundings a little more here, not just with searching forums before starting a new topic but also with the T&Cs.
If we pay attention to the notes mods have posted and with the guidelines that are around we should have a great community here.
In the end it won't just be better for us members but it'll also be better for the mods and they won't be fixing our silly mistakes that could of been prevented to begin with.

Glad to see this, I was also noticing it. Seeing 3 topics on Lady Gaga in one week was a bit irritating.

I always use the search the forums feature, and i'm glad I do. Because there's been topics that I was going to start, and when I search the forums I've found someone else has made that, and usually they've made it like earlier that day! and I just missed it by a glance ;P
Can I add to your topic here Saied?
and also say that people REALLY need to read the nice mod notes that Lewis, and the other mods have written on topics to keep things tidy. I've been noticing, especially in the QA crushes thread that there's been a lot of back and forth conversations. The thread is basically just to state who you like, and all other convos about it should be taken to PM's.
But I do think it would be awesome for QA to work as a team to keep things tidy instead of relying on the mods to just clean it up for us.

Miranda is quite correct. The modnotes are there for a reason and EVERYONE should obey them. Also adding to this topic, I would like to thank the members of QA such as Miranda, Saied, JJ and more that I cant think of right now for helping the Mod Team keep the forums neat and easily navigable.

I think more people need to give this a read. :3
Lately I've seen a lot of topics relating to all the same thing w/ nearly identical topic titles ... I've been using the Search the Forums tool a lot more lately. Hopefully everyone else will too before posting.
Of course, these do tend to be made by newer people, so that does make sense & all. However .. even still. It applies to everyone. We definitely need to take a look at this thread more often. :3

There have been SO many duplicate topics going around, and it's a hassle to close them, make a modnote and then post a link for an older thread. I've been having to do this at least twice a day.
I'm going to keep bumping this thread until people learn to search the forums. I'm so glad that the majority of members, like yourself, remember to do that. You're all heaven-sent.
