All the laws forbidding interracial marriage in the US were overturned by a Supreme court decision in 1967.

FORTY-TWO YEARS AGO.
That anyone is still willing to deny an interracial couple a marriage license is absolutely ridiculous. It's unfair, racist and probably illegal.

It's not a matter of going backwards/what is this world coming to/etc. I thought it was pretty clear knowledge that there were a few racists still left (esp. of the older variety).
This story doesn't make me worried about the state of the US at all...hopefully this guy will get fired/fined/reprimanded in some way (we've got tons of high level officials already speaking out about him) and it's no doubt that this couple will get their marriage license shortly despite this one racist.

Actually, I doubt there are many people who can say they are completely one race. Im sure if you went back far enough, most of us would find ancestors of different races. Not that it even matters.. Race is just a tiny part of your genetics. Its no different to, say, eye or hair colour.
