Topic: Would you go where homosexuality is illegal?

After almost 200 votes so far, the opinion on this poll is quite evenly spread. At the top, poll participants answered it's unlikely they'd go where homosexuality is illegal, while in 3rd place are respondents who outright would never travel to such places.
At the bottom are those who said they would while perhaps taking a vacation from their sexualities, but more responded in 2nd place saying they would go and risk it. I wonder though whether this was interpreted as just accepting the risk or if this percentage would be out in the open and even pursue homosexual behaviour?

Of course I'll go to these places. It's the entire goal of my life, really. I want to travel to many countries whose laws are backward in this type of way. I want to join the Peace Corps, live in Africa, etc. I don't think about my homosexuality being a hindrance, and reading things like this brings that back to me. I'm surrounded by so many people that just don't care that it's ceased to be anything noteworthy. I'll need to keep it in mind as I travel, though, because I don't particularly want to be killed. Regardless, I will go to these places and live there. I'll avoid stating my sexuality and won't really concern myself with romantic interests. most of my travels will be for work anyway, I hope. If I do find myself falling for someone while in one of these countries ... I don't know. Knowing myself, I'd probably go for it anyway if I thought it was feasible. I'm going to be myself and do what I want to accept the risk that goes along with my actions.

OH MY GOD COLLEEN. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!
Here’s what I know about the realm of possibility—it is always expanding, it is never what you think it is. Everything around us was once deemed impossible. From the airplane overhead to the phones in our pockets to the choir girl putting her arm around the metalhead. As hard as it is for us to see sometimes, we all exist within the realm of possibility. Most of the limits are of our own world’s devising. And yet, every day we each do so many things that were once impossible to us.

I would go to places where homosexuality is illegal. Isolating these places will only encourage their absurd laws.
I plan to go to Singapore again at some stage, I am not sure if I have a burning desire to go to any other places that have outlawed it.

No. I've no big interest in visiting the likes of Iran, Afghanistan or Nigeria, anyway. It's interesting to mention, though, that a friend of mine from Dubai, who would be considered camp by Western standards, finds it easier to 'be gay' back in his home country. Arab men tend to be quite intimate with each other, and it's not unheard of to see two men hugging or holding hands, which wouldn't go down very well in the streets of Dublin. Now, it's another thing if he was to declare his homosexuality openly in Dubai... Even though he says there are no raids on gay venues (all of which are completely underground), I don't think it's very encouraging to live in a society where your lifestyle is punishable by law.
But you are, Blanche!

I'm with Colleen here, the majority of places i'd like to travel are no-go zones for the flames of faggotry.
I guess i don't really consider my sexuality when thinking of things,
I'm fairly discrete anyways.

none within ourselves, either, and found that the world
opened before us like the petals of a rose.

I would.

I've been to those places and i dont think youre missing out if you never go!
Appart from the fact that you have to hide who you are theres nothing to do. Only in Egypt you can go sightseeing. Not only I had to get rid of all my pride stuff but also when I visited the Emirates for example I had to wear long clothes and for extra safety they told me to wear a veil.
And it's not worth going there with the intention to make them more tolerant. Because then youll just be a "missing tourist".
I would go again only if i had to for work or something. Definitely not a honeymoon destination.

Would I go there for a vacation ? Perhaps . Would I life there ? No way , it's already stressing me out living in small towns in countries where they have even gay marriage .

Of course. If I limited myself to places where Homosexuality wasn't illegal, my list would sadly be quite short... Besides in places where homosexuality is illegal you have to act in their eyes as a homosexual and be open. For example, you and you're Bf/GF walking down a street holding hands maybe stopping in a coffe shop to kiss in public.
Anyway... What would I have to fear in these places. I don't have a boyfirend. I most likely never will, and I'm far too secretive to be noticed by anyone by my intentions or otherwise not, I am invisible to people. I would love to go to a place where Homosexuality is illegal, maybe Sweden.... they're quiet and nice, not a lot of people care anyway... Then again maybe it isn't illegal there... Oh well, i'm just rambling to myself again.
I'm afraid of being alone... I...don't want to be alone...

Homosexuality in Sweden is legal because Sweden is part of the European Community.

I have been to Morocco, and I intend to visit quite a few more countries in my life so I probably will again.
However, I'm one of those people who nobody believes is gay, so I wouldn't see it as a problem.
I miss you, but I haven't met you yet.

Yes of course. The world is a beautiful place. Some silly ignorant people won't stop me from being who I am and seeing the world. Laws are Laws... doesn't mean people share the views of their goverments either. Plus... the word 'chav' is extremely offensive, in my opinion anyway. I've had many issues with several rappers/singers in our own London who freely spit out homophobic lyrics. I was threatened several times on tracks and on pirate radio. But hey.... shit happens. I'd love to go to Iran... Jamaica.. Egypt. Just because our english media is so politically correct doesn't mean the people don't share these ideas. I keep myself to myself and then theres no issues.
