Blog Entry: Death

Entry

Death We visited my grandfather’s grave today, today being Father’s Day. My mom cried and my brother has a mini breakdown by the time we got to my Dad’s parent’s house.

Why? Was the one question that made me think. Why is death such a bad thing to everyone? I certainly don’t see it that way. Call me a cold-hearted bitch, but what would life be without death?

Life would mean nothing without it. Life without death is like light without dark, or hot without cold, and love without hate. What is the point in living without dying? Death is what makes the journey so worthwhile. It’s why we take risks and make decisions and be who we are and do what we do.

The one thing that we all want to do and try to do is immortalize ourselves. It’s why people write books, or paint pictures, or etch their name into a tree, or leave notes in library books. We are all trying to leave a little piece of ourselves behind.

Death is a good thing. It gives meaning to life. Life, the one thing that we have to work with. A blank slate for us to make our mark.

Just for the record, the weather for today is rainy, with an 80% chance of bullshit.

You're actually talking about something Freud came up with. He said that we all have two basic instincts: life instincts (eros), which are eating, copulating, etc. and death instincts (thanatos) which he actually came up with later in life. It's the unconscious desire we all have to die because it puts an end to everyday struggles of happiness and success. And it's what creates art, according to him.

Anyways, I don't think people are sad because of the concept of death. I think people are sad because they really miss their loved one. I'd love for a chance to see my grandfather one more time. It's like when someone lives far away and you miss them, except when someone lives far away you know you'll be able to visit them. When someone dies, you know that's it, you'll never be able to see them again, and dealing with that is very difficult and very sad.
and it's all an illusion it's all an illusion and sometimes i wonder what the hell god was thinking when he created mankind and if he created us in his image is he also so fucked up?
