Blog Entry: Northerner Tea
Entry
Northerner Tea
I wasn't born in the south, but I was raised here for almost ten years. I've been told that I act the most southern in my family, probably because I'm the only one who's grown up here. Sure, I say y'all and ain't on occassion (but I do not have a southern accent) but my mother told me what makes me really southern is my fascination with northerners.
Especially some of those accents. Some of those accents are weird.
But the one thing I find really weird about northerners is their tea. I heard the most terrifying thing the other day.
"Northerners don't have sweet tea."
I seriously was shocked. I was so shocked that I keep using the word shocked instead of another word that correlates with shocked.
I was told that if you go to Mickey D's or something and you order some tea, that they come back with UNSWEET tea. What, do they expect you to sweeten it yourself? What kind of garbage is that? Or do you northerners actually like it like that?
Ew. Just ew. It made me run to the store to buy and jug of sweet tea just to reclaim my sanity. I am scarred for life.
If you read this and you live up north, please tell me it's not true. That's just....crazy.

It's true, you can buy unsweet tea. It's not that bad honestly. Some companies sell it by the bottle too.

Who would sell that in bottles? For people to drink? Or to make rat poison out of the damnable elixir?
I'm sorry, I tried that stuff and it was just..... (insert negative word here)

I can't really say I'm from the north, it's more west than anything... I mean they serve tea both with and without sweetener. I can't stand unsweetened tea though I like my teas extremely strong and I need sugar in order for that to work with normal tea.

Smith son...
Your horror amuses me.
Yeah, we have the option to get unsweetened tea. By default, my area gives you it non-sweet, and a bunch of sugar packets to boot.
But... I don't really like my tea that sweet to begin with. So the concept is fine to me.

We have unsweetened tea and you can get the sweetened stuff but it's not as common here. Although... my mum's family is from the south so we always have sweet tea around XD. I'm not a huge fan of iced tea either way but I like the sweetened stuff better even though it's a rarity that it'll be around haha.

You can get sweet tea or unsweetened tea up north, so don't worry too much. XD When we make it at my house we always add sugar, and that's how I prefer it, but then again, 1/2 of my family is from the south as well.
It's not horrible unsweetened, depending on what kind of tea. Black tea is kind of bitter, but chai or green tea tastes just fine.

You may want to get used to unsweetened tea, sucrose is pretty much toxic and that level of it is absolutely terrible for your body. He'll a good portion of scientists are trying to have sucrose and high fructose corn syrup labeled as toxins.

On the subject of high fructose corn syrup http://nutrition.about.com/od/...uctosesyrup.htm
And yes, Unsweetened tea is all we get up here, but you get packets of sugar or the choice to add sugar, although the tea I drink has Carmel and vanilla, so it's already sweet, I still add sugar to that and that's all the tea I drink.

Hahaha this topic is so hilarious.xD here, its sweet tea or unsweet tea. Lemon juice is almost always in both. Unsweet tea is just nasty to me. I dont understand how anyone could drink it. Hahaha about 95% of the people i know here that drink tea, like it sweet. I like mine VERY sweet haha like so sweet, if you run outta syrup, you can just use my tea instead.. XD hahaha i am NOT ashamed! Lol
Peace and Blessings,

I grew up in Illinois, so northern area. Whenever we went out to eat my dad would always order "iced tea." Depending on the place he would specify unsweetened. I, on the other hand, love sweet tea so I order "sweet tea." Sweet tea is available, you just have to ask for it! Plus, McDonalds always asks if you want your tea sweetened or unsweetened (as do many restaurants we have been to).
Now we love in southern missouri and still say the same things and people usually ask sweetened or unsweetened. I don't really see much of a difference unless you go to a small, family owned place.
