If you give up, these people have won. It's a cliche'd statement, but oh so true.
This fight seems hopeless at times. Sometimes it looks as if nothing will ever change. But I'd bet money that women felt that way during Suffrage, and that black people felt that way during the Civil Rights Movement.
And look what happened! They didn't give up back then, and they changed the country. Similar things have happened around the world.
I think it is inevitable that we will win this. The world is changing for the better. Just look at Sweden or the Netherlands, or the uber-conservative countries where activists have begun rising up! Change is not only inevitable, it is happening. Right now, as I type this.
Find a dream. Something that will push you forward. If you can move past the current hopelessness for the sake of that dream, I promise you will start to see change. Perhaps not in your own family, but in the country and in the world.
Look at www.advocate.com. It's an LGBT news site that pumps out articles daily. You'll see the worst of humanity in some of them, yes. But you'll also see the best. It gives me a ray of hope, and perhaps it can do the same for you.
I will never be afraid again
I will keep on fighting 'till the end
I can walk on water
I can fly
I will keep on fighting 'till I die

Thank you for telling me that. I feel a little more hopeful because you are right about how women and black Americans felt during their civil rights movements. I will definitely check out that website and try to keep my spirits up.
