Religion and Sexuality Don't mix well...

I've always come to that conclusion whenever talking with anyone.

Like my high school chorus teacher... I decided to go visit him today and we've always had serious 1-on-1 talks like he does with a lot of his students.

I guess I was dressed to "something" for him--I had on skinny jeans and a tank top. He asked about my tragus piercing and he just went into asking about my life in general, how was college, how's your family, etc...

He then goes into a long winded sugar-coated rant about pray the gay away. He didn't exactly say but he beat around the bush long enough. I feel bad saying rant because I respect and love him so much-- I sat and listened to him praise me and my musical talents and telling me how it's God's plan for me...

He told me about his little brother, he said his mom babied him into a sissy and that they were worried he'd be gay. He told me he'd have disowned his brother if he had turned out gay-- he's "happily" married now but I just didn't understand...

Everything has it's consequences.

I can't even put in words what I'm thinking right now so I'll stop...

I can understand why it's really hard to hear someone you respect and admire talk down about homosexuality, especially on basis of religion. I am really sad to hear that you had to endure that. No one should have to.

I don't know what your religious views are, however if you believe in a higher power allow yourself to believe what you believe. Just because someone believes one way it doesn't mean it's set in stone as the way that everything is. If you have a love of God and you believe that He doesn't look down upon you for your sexuality then embrace that.

Religion is based on a personal relationship and everyone has their personal relationship with their God/gods/goddess in a different way.

What I'm trying to say is that if you have a religious belief don't let someone else's belief have the power to turn you away from what you believe in.

I wasn't hurt by it at all. It was an intellectual conversation (although one sided) and it gave me things to think about, these are just after thoughts I wish I had brought up with him, but, in an effort to keep the peace I didn't want it to become an argument..

specify on the religion. If you mean christianity, then i agree that they dont mix well. Wicca, however, is indifferent about sexuality.
I am strong because I know weakness.• I am compassionate because I have experienced suffering. •I am alive because I am a fighter.• I am wise because I have been foolish.• I can laugh because I have known sadness.• I can love because I have known loss
