Yeah, I noticed that back in 3rd of 4th grade.
Wake up!
Look down!
Hear my prayer
Don't single me out
And then forget me...

I've often wondered about that. But I think maybe it would be to stop him from being able to date more girls since they all thought he was gay? That's how I like to take it, because then she's not ruining his reputation as much as making it so no more girls will try to date him.

I think less offensive more "If you're gonna say stupid shit about me I can do it too!"
Or what Sarah said... Both make sense to me.

Quite honestly, I'm glad she used to say that. It just shows how much she's been educated over the years.

I did notice that, but I didn't really take it as being that offensive...like someone above me said, I thought of it as more of a "making it harder for him get girls" thing than a "ruining his reputation by spreading nasty rumours about him" thing.
Besides, that song came out ages ago, so even if she did mean it the way you think she did, we all say stupid things we regret. I used to say things were gay and call stupid people fags all the time. Then I got older and started to realize exactly what I was saying. I don't think it's fair to call someone a hypocrite because of one little line in a song that she wrote years ago when she was younger and less mature. Have you heard her say anything like this in any of her newer songs? No. If she was really a hypocrite, she would still be making offensive gay jokes (not that i found it really offensive, as I said before)
Sometimes I think people just read into everything too much. Don't worry. I'm guilty of it too. It's better than the opposite though. The fact that my mom isn't allowed to call Native Americans "Indians" or makes jokes about an asian person's "Engrish" infuriates her.

I don't take it offensively at all, but I can see why someone would I guess, but like others have said, if she did mean it to be offensive to the gay community she's obviously been educated!!

I think this is less offensive and more a success story.
I mean, if she did mean it to be offensive originally, it's obvious that she now doesn't believe the same things, and is no longer like that. So this is an example of a person who was ignorant coming around.
So in my opinion it's not offensive, it's inspiring.
