Blog Entry: The "EXTRA" Gay

The "EXTRA" Gay So, I'm settling into College Life in the city pretty well and I'm learning some more things about myself and being with more gays (such as my roommate) and I though I'd share...

The first thing I've really learned so far is that every gay is not alike, which should go without saying but there's a story behind that:

I went to my school's BGLSA meeting (google it, all the hits are us really) with my roommate Nick and another gay guy Austin that lives in the same dorm, and as we sit Nick says, "Oh look, we're sitting in order of gay!"

I'm sitting on the left, the Private Gay:
I'm not in the closet by any means but socially I usually bite my tongue about things I say around people or my friends even. Boys, relationships, penis, and the like usually aren't the topics I pick or add input to in typical conversation. There's a boundary of things I feel are socially acceptable to talk about I keep my private and social lives distanced, so some extent if you know what I mean...

Nick, is sitting in the middle, the Social Gay:
Everyone knows he's gay, there's no boundary of what he'll say in any crowd of people. Which I guess is good--I'm sure he's used to getting odd looks when he makes comments on guys around people that don't know him. My only gripe about that is when we're going somewhere on campus boys, penis, and relationships are the topic of conversation... I mean we do have "gay-time" in my room where we gossip like school girls and creep on facebook but that's something I wouldn't take outside of my bedroom. Not to mention he talks about me and things about me to other people...

And there's Austin, The EXTRA Gay:
Around here, "extra" can be used as an adjective to describe someone's personality and or an act that they are committing--meaning over the top or "too" something. I'm not trying to put his business out there or anything (he wouldn't mind though, I promise) but he's more the stereotypical TV gay. Girl this, Girl that. He likes to be nude (glad I haven't witnessed that) he's a self proclaimed "hoe," that has hooked up with at least 2 people in the BGLSA, and is currently dating a stripper from the gay club (the stories go on for days and this first semester isn't over yet)...
