Blog Entry: The old becomes the new.
Blog: AUGUST's Blog
The old becomes the new. Well, my German Great Aunt and Uncle have come to visit for 2 weeks. All has been well, and I feel more at home than ever (as I, sadly, was taken from Germany when I was 2 and therefore unable to grow up there).
Although I am perfectly fine with sharing my sexuality with anyone if they ask, it's always awkward when it's to someone I actually give a crap about. So, today, my Mom came and told me that she discussed my sexuality and gender with my Aunt.
I quickly froze, and waited for her to say how she took it.
My Mom simply smiled an said 'She said 'Well, we were raised that who you are should not change how people look at you, no?' so she doesn't mind in the least.'
Now this surprised me deeply. My Aunt is 70 years old, raised old-fashioned-like in Germany, in a family which was a typical old-fashioned family.
She has not treated me any differently since then, either. Since I know some people say it's fine, when they in reality, DO mind it.
It just.. yeah. I have been lucky and was born with a super loving, accepting Mom who had no second thoughts about it, but yeah.
It's so nice to hear someone from a prior generation that is so accepting, without any doubt or secret discomfort.
It made my day.
